University of Waterloo Engineering students recently toured 7 College to learn about the innovative greywater and rainwater collection programs operating in the house. Toilets and urinals are flushed using greywater (collected from shower and laundry water in the house), and laundry machines operate using rainwater collected in storage tanks in the basement. The operation is being studied by engineering students at the University of Guelph, as well by the City of Guelph who have been using 7 College as a demonstration project to show prospective developers in town the potential of this type of technology. In addition, entrepreneurial engineering firms are also studying and monitoring the units in the hopes of continually improving on it. Last year, 7 College did not require city water at all to flush toilets or do laundry.
