AFT Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the Co-op access my account without my approval or knowledge if I participate in this program?

A: The Co-op is only authorized to withdraw the specific amount you set out in your Automatic Debit of Housing Charges Authorization Form. You must authorize any changes to the amount that is taken each month from your bank account (by submitting a new form).

Q: Will the Co-op give anyone else access to my banking information?

A: Only the Co-op staff, the Co-op's Credit Union, and the Co-op accounting auditors will have access to your banking information. Your privacy is important to us and we strive to protect it to the best of our abilities. Check here for more information on the Guelph Campus Co-op Privacy Policy.

Q: What if my roommates and I want to pay our housing charges automatically but we usually only submit one cheque each month?

A: Under these circumstances the Co-op is willing to accept automatic payment arrangements from each member of the household. That way you only pay the amount of housing charges you owe each month! No more collecting up the housing charges!

Q: What if I have given post-dated cheques to the Co-op but want to have my housing charges automatically withdrawn from my account?

A: Once you have submitted your Automatic Debit of Housing Charges Authorization Form to the Co-op Office we will return your post-dated cheques to you. If you like, you can complete the Automatic Debit of Housing Charges Authorization Form with a start date for the 1st day of the month that a post-dated cheque has not been provided to the Co-op.

Q: What happens if my automatic payment does not clear my account on the 1st day of the month because I didn't have enough money in the account?

A: If you believe there has been a problem with the processing of your housing charge payment please contact the Co-op Office at (519) 824-4950 and let us know. If your automatic payment was NSF the Co-op will require you to replace the payment with a cheque or you may pay by debit in the Co-op Office. There will be a $25 administrative fee you are required to pay (given that the Co-op will be charged a fee for the NSF by our Credit Union).

Q: Can I sign up to have my housing charges automatically withdrawn from my bank account at any time?

A: Sure. But remember, the Co-op must receive your form and voided cheque at least 7 days before the first of the month.

Q: Who should I contact in the Co-op Office if I have questions about the automatic payment of my housing charges?

A: You can contact Tom at or Preetam at . We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
